Mazatlán in pictures

We went for a walk this morning and I thought I’d show you some of what we saw. Some of the pictures above were from Playa Norte.  Some are from a wall on Belisario Dominguez that usually advertises banda concerts, and the three final ones are the Augustina Ramirez school walls. I never take a walk in Mazatlán without taking my camera.  Can you see why?...

El Recreo Cultural Center in Mazatlán – update

A lot has been accomplished since the first of March when the new entity El Recreo took over the former Recrea space on Calle Constitución in Centro. If you’d like to read my previous posts on the project here they are: the first and the second. I thought I’d bring you up to date on our progress. Casa del Caracol has been using the space for the last few weeks. Owner Laura Medina has created a comfortable, colorful, environment –...

Mazatlán garden report

We enjoy spring in the garden. It is wonderful to see the new growth and change. Of course, learning a new climate, plants, bugs, and chores makes this a work in progress for us. At the top of this post you’ll see our pot with three cantaloupe plants. They haven’t even bloomed yet but we are very hopeful that we’ll get a few lovely melons. They love the heat, and that’s one thing we can promise them! Below is a...

I Love Spring in Mazatlán

I love the change of seasons, especially from Winter to Spring. As you’ll see above, we get a lot of fog in the mornings.  This morning the fog made everything so wet it seemed like it had rained. Why else do I love the Spring here? Even though it is warming up the air still has that lovely cool undercurrent. It’s the end of the growing season here…but I am growing cantelope melons – they should like the upcoming hot...

The Moto Parade in Mazatlán

It has been a busy time lately here in Mazatlán. Semana Santa is actually the week before Easter, but since the kids are out of school for another week after Easter, it turns into a two week party. This year, the Wednesday after Easter Sunday marked the beginning of Moto Week, my favorite event of the year. Bikers come from all over the Americas for the fun of showing off their bikes and getting together with other bikers. There is...

Semana Santa in Mazatlán

I love living in a place where people are always so happy. I think Semana Santa is the happiest time of all for Mazatlán visitors. People come from near and far to enjoy a relaxing springtime vacation here. The weather is perfect – between 80 and 85 degrees – and it is beautiful and sunny with a fantastic breeze. Families set up an umbrella or some sort of shade and spend the entire day on the beach. We went for...

What’s Going On In Mazatlán?

It is Semana Santa here in Mazatlán.  The paper says they expect the hotels to be at 100% occupancy starting today.  So far – during the day, anyway – it has been pretty relaxed and not too packed at the beaches and the traffic is still more or less normal.  I expect that to change, though! The picture at the top of the post is from yesterday – I took a bike ride and liked how the lifeguards, Marina, and...
