The last couple of days have felt warm. Not hot – blast furnace hot – like it can get in August or September. In August you can drive along with your hand out the window and feel the heat just like an oven. Right now it is warm but there is this little undercurrent of cool.

Even though it isn’t super hot it takes a bit of time to adjust and I have been a bit woozy today, not feeling like myself. I decided a refreshing drink that would hydrate me and make me feel cooler is a Limonjito. I get these when we go to the SInaloa chain Panamá sometimes. It is a combination of lime, cucumber, and mint blended with ice in my Vita-mix blender. Very refreshing!

The weather forecast calls for it to be very hot mid week – 97 degrees or so. If the humidity stays up that will be some hot weather for sure.  Other areas in México are very hot, too.  Our rainy season usually starts the last week of June, but we are hoping it starts a bit earlier this year.

Below take a look at a sweet potato plant I’m growing.  I forgot it in  a bowl on the counter and it had tiny little sprouts.  I sat it in a dish with water for a couple of days and then planted it.  I just love how things grow here – with lots of enthusiasm!

Paul and I are so happy that the rainy and gloomy Pacific Northwest weather is just a memory – we love living in sunny Mazatlán.  We love all the new plants we can grow and waking up every day knowing we can enjoy the outdoors.  But lately we have been pretty jazzed to finally be taking advantage of the sun for a practical purpose.

Earlier this week we had two solar hot water heaters installed on our roof.  Originally we had ordered one 240 liter but they were on back order so we ended up with two 150 liter setups.  It couldn’t have gone easier for us. This is more capacity than the two of us need but since our house is large we fit the system to the house.

For those of you not familiar with the way our water system functions, I’ll describe it – we have a pressurized system on the house that is in place because the person we bought from chose to install a whole house water purification system, and it requires pressure. Water doesn’t come to your house under pressure in Mazatlán. Most people receive their water at the street and it travels up to the roof to their tinaco, or water storage tank.  Our house also has a cistern, a large underground storage tank.

So, here is how the water moves around our house:

It is such lovely weather in Mazatlán right now. We love it. Warm and a bit humid but with a nice coolish breeze.

The waves have been larger than usual lately, probably gearing up for the Surfing Championship coming up the first of June. Below is a short video shot this morning at about 9:30 am.  Bet you wish you were here!
