Household chores

When you live in a warm climate like Mazatlán, sandals are the order of the day. I think I have worn shoes maybe five times in the last seven months! The streets are dusty and the dust and dirt gets everywhere, including your sandals! So, when I get into the shower in the morning, most days I have a sandal scrubbing session before I actually shower myself! I have a scrub brush waiting for that purpose, and shampoo does a...

Amigos!

While a lot of bloggers were lucky to attend the Blogger Meetup last week on Isla Mujeres put together by Wayne, we had another Meetup going here in Mazatán. Bliss and the Captain sailed into Mazatlán and we had several enjoyable visits. They were moored in an area just South of Centro – less than five minutes by car from our house. We ran over to the marina and picked Bliss up. We came back to our place and after...

Back to normal here

Life is returning to normal at our house now that the birds are gone. We have food in the fridge, laundry is done, and I am only slightly behind in my Spanish homework. I have all day tomorrow, ha ha! We decided to head down to the malecon and have a beer while watching the sunset. It was a bit cloudy but the sunset was still beautiful....

Bye-Bye Birdies

Yesterday we returned the baby parrots to Conrehabit. We’d taken care of them for more than two weeks, and it was time for us to get back to studying our Spanish, which we’d been neglecting during their time with us. Not to mention laundry and other household chores. When we got back from dropping them off and were unloading the empty laundry basket/cage from the back of the car, guess what! One little scamp had hitchhiked back home with us!...

More Baby Bird stories

Isn’t this picture funny? The one parrot with the big belly must have gorged himself on the saucer of food. The one next to him didn’t eat, I guess. I promise this will be our last baby parrot post, at least until they are ready to head to the Conrehabit ranch. Paul and I have been caring for 50 baby parrots now for more than a week. It has been a lot of work but also quite an education....

Babies are cute

We are really busy taking care of the baby birds. Here is a short video of them after they ate lunch yesterday. The first video is a couple of them getting fed, and the second is when they are enjoying a little break in the sunshine. We estimate their age to be approximately four weeks. They are Half Moon Conures, also known as Orange-Fronted Conures....

Parrots, Parrots, Everywhere!

Parrots have been in the news in the state of Sinaloa over the last two days. Two men were caught transporting 476 baby parrots – mostly conures that are endangered in this area. They asserted that the birds were from Costa Rica but local experts believe they were wild caught here in the state. You can read today’s article in the Noroeste here. (The pictures above and below are really wonderful if you click them to enlarge…) Mazatlán has a...
