Can you tell the dogs are excited about the move?
(Lucy the lab mix & Henry the Schnoodle)

I am heading back to Mazatlan on Monday – closing on our new house is scheduled for Tuesday!

We were talking to the current owner last night and he asked us if the dogs were excited, so I had to post the picture, above. They know SOMETHING is up, but they don’t know what.

So, I am flying on Monday, going to the closing on Tuesday, and Wednesday I hope to get in with the dentist I had a consultation with on our last trip.

Paul is staying home to handle the wire transfer, work, take care of the dogs, and keep the house neat for showings. Hmmm, I wonder who got the best side of this deal?

Paul and I have made a big decision this weekend. We’ve decided that the only things we’re going to bring with us are the things we can fit in our Honda mini-van.

We bought a 21 cubic foot cargo box for the top and we are going to buy a 13 cubic foot cargo box for the back. The way-back seats fold into the floor but we are probably going to have to leave the two middle row seats here.

Tomorrow we are going to put together a whole bunch of boxes and dry-fit them to the space to see how many we can fit in. That will then determine what we can bring.

So, here’s a short rundown on what we’ll bring:

    • Clothes (not too many, either)
    • Sheets & Towels
    • Kitchenaid Mixer
    • Vita-Mix blender
    • Espresso Machine & grinder
    • Pressure cooker
    • Ice Cream Maker
    • Cast iron comal & dutch oven
    • Le Creuset dutch oven
    • A couple pans
    • Silverware
    • Art work
    • Two oriental rugs
    • Dog Bed (and two dogs)
    • Parrot cage (and parrot)
    • 3-4 boxes of books (these we may send to ourselves instead)
    • A bit of yarn & knitting pattern books
    • A few tools – drill, skill saw, socket sets etc.
    • Computers/Printer
    • 13″ TV
    • Compact stereo
    • A couple boxes of financial papers
    • Flute & music
    • Popcorn popper (for roasting coffee)
    • Dog food & Parrot food containers
    • Probably a few misc. boxes – one from the kitchen and one from the office

It feels so liberating to know we will be starting fresh. I’ll route lists of items available to the boys and sell some things, too.

This coming Thursday is the broker’s open house so I am hoping that we really get some showings after that. The only showing scheduled right now is for this Friday.

Paul and I have ticked off the last remaining items on my list – and believe it or not – I have actually lazed around for most of the day (after the frenzied morning clean-up in case there was a showing)….it has been a LONG time since I had a relaxing day like this.

I haven’t posted in almost a week because the only thing I wanted to talk about was something we didn’t dare discuss….

But four days after putting our house on the market we had an offer – from someone who needed occupancy on June 18! See what I mean about too good to be true? Paul has to work until August 3 so I scrambled around and got us booked into a long term stay hotel, got started packing our menaje de casa, etc., etc.

The buyer wanted to make some changes to the property – adding a building and running a small business, and the county won’t allow it, I guess.

So we are back to square one…which is usual in real estate, I guess.

There is a broker’s open house scheduled for the 31st, and I’m sure that after the brokerage community sees the place we will start having more showings.
